Oh what a day....

So I get to work this morning and my friend S comes up to me. She looks at me and says "I know you watch the local news about as much as I do so I wanted to tell you. Remember Royer??"

Me: Yeah.....

S: He was killed in a car accident on Saturday night.

Me: Blinking in disbelief: REALLY?!

S: yeah....

So that was how my monday started. Royer left the team I'm on about.... 5 months after I got there. He was a mutual fund rep first and then an IRA rep. He left to go to Mutual Fund Clearing. To say clearing was somber today is putting it mildly. He was 25. And got engaged 2 weeks ago! His funeral is on Wednesday and my manager is trying to get HR to let my entire team go to the funeral. The reason this will be quite a feat is because of phone queues. We're hoping that since its slow we'll have a good argument. IRAs has like 50 backups and DFW can suck up the MF aspect for a couple hours. We shall see though.

Even though I haven't worked with him for quite a while its still hitting me quite hard. He's my age! Although we all say he's actually about 30-35 because we would celebrate his birthday about every 3-4 months. There used to be two Josh's on the team, so we called them by their last name, but their last names were very similar. So my ATM sent my TM a message saying it was Royer's b-day when in reality it was the other Josh's birthday. He got his desk decorated and then came in the next and was like "uhhh... guys. thanks and all but my birthday isn't for about 3 months" So we started celebrating every few months. Threw him a birthday party on his last day with the team.

He was killed in a car accident. On his way home from a flag football game. He wasn't even driving and no, alcohol was not involved at all. They're still figuring out the cause.

Talk about sobering...

Sometimes being Naughty is necessary

So I woke up this morning to a puppy nose in my face. That was fun.... someone wanted to cuddle I discovered. I let her out and she kind of wandered around until I convinced her she should at least go pee. Then she came in and plopped down. So I sat on the ground and she immediately came over and curled up with me. Ziva is such a cuddler and I love it! And she knows (most of the time) to not get on the furniture.

I then decide that its gorgeous out so I should go sit outside. I made some coffee (about which time the husband gets out of bed) and then went outside and just sat there enjoying the morning. While I'm sitting there looking at Ziva enjoy gnawing on a stick she'd found I realized how much we have neglected the yard work this year. And how we talk about working on it during the week but its so hot when we get home from work and then we're just too tired etc etc. And I decide that I kind of want to play hooky from church to work on the yard. I bring up the idea to the husband and he was apparently thinking the same thing. So in the time we usually spend at church on Sundays we end up doing some serious weed clearing and Ziva has the time of her life. Apparently weeds are fun to pick up and run around with. Said puppy dog is currently passed out, so I'm glad we used up some of her energies!!

Right now I'm just chillaxing waiting for laundry to finish. Then I'm going to finish folding (I made a significant dent on it yesterday), do the necessary ironing, and get it all put away. That is my goal for the rest of the day. I'm hoping Jim's goal for the rest of the day includes putting the thing-a-ma-bobers back over the bathroom window so I don't have to be all stealthy to shower as well as put the door back on! A plus would be if he would get his tools out of the linen closet in the bathroom but that might have to wait till this week sometime. I'm just glad that the bathroom is almost completely finished!!

I'm feeling rather housewifey at the moment. Jim's ex-roomie/best man is coming to pick up his kitchen table. The table Jim has been using for years belongs to Z's parents (Z being the best man) and I have a very good kitchen table (even if I do desperately need new chairs! I have 2...). Anyway, we went and got the rest of my furniture from the apartment, which includes the table. So Jim sent Z a text telling him he can come his table whenever he wanted to (as it is currently sitting in the family room..... maybe 5 feet from the current kitchen table). Thankfully Z is coming to get it tonight. Unfortunately, A (his wife) is also coming. I like A a lot, except that the house is still an absolute MESS. So I leave work and go to the grocery store since we have practically no food, and then come home and start a scramble to clean at the very least the kitchen and the family room since Z and A are guaranteed to see both of those rooms. I also made brownies (although I cheated and did not make them from scratch). Jim was very helpful in picking up the family room as well. Getting all of that done, including dinner (yay grill!!) in under three hours I find to be a minor miracle.

I also now have my drawers IN my dresser in the bedroom. We move the drawerless dress over to the bedroom as well, from the guest room. Its been a fantastically productive evening.... Although I REALLY need to start thank you cards again.... I have probably 30-40 left... sigh

Better late than never

So I got married two weeks ago today.... It was so awesome! The only thing that went wrong was Jim's Grandmother falling and breaking her hip the thursday before the wedding and thus having surgery the morning of. She's still in town at a rehab clinic determined to be better in time to fly to Texas for a family reunion at the end of the month. Everyone has told me they had a blast, which is awesome!

The honeymoon was also awesome. Spent all week by the pool pretty much. We went snorkling but other than that didn't have many adventures. I take that back, we did a small amount of kayaking.... but didn't stay out long since it was hot and we couldn't go where we wanted to (they told us we can't go on that side of the dock... LAME). We really just wanted to relax after all of the hubabaloo of the wedding.

Currently we are trying to get the house in order. Its pretty much a disaster, but sloooooooowly getting better. It seems like every time I get the kitchen organized and things in their proper places we find a gift that needs to go in the kitchen that we had put of to the side or I remember some kitchen gizmo I have, just at the apartment. We've got what's going to be the guestroom picked up enough so that we can get the bed in there.... but it really just means we've moved all the piles, unfortunately. But that room will take a while since that is where EVERYTHING of mine has been stored as I moved it in. However, I have approximately two weeks before I have to turn in my apartment keys since Brooke is moving as well and thus we have to move the furniture in here.

I need to get a hold of the photographer to get an idea of when I'll get the pictures back and we also need to get on uploading the honeymoon pictures. Although we are planning on getting them put on a computer and then taking them over to grandma's so that she can see them first, since she's seen everything last with the stinking broken hip.

16 days!

Yup! I'm getting hitched in 16 days! That's just crazy! Megan gets here on Sunday!! Then next week is my last full week at work before everything. Then the next Sunday Mom gets here. Hannah and Jess should be here Wednesday or Thursday. Kait you need to send me your flight info when you have it cuz.... I don't know when to come pick you up!

Pretty much everything is taken care of at this point. I got a call two days ago from the cake place telling me I need to drop off the cake topper....oops! Totally forgot that one. Thankfully Jim had it (as I couldn't find it) and then dropped it off yesterday for me.

So during tax time I was thinking I was nuts for thinking a month after tax season was fine since there was so much stuff going on. I'm now glad I wasn't trying to do this during tax time. While its not super stressful, life IS busy with all the crazy details.

I'm sure I will figure out something else I need to do here today, as that has been the trend this week. Transportation is what I need to figure out. Mom will be useful there though.

The cat woke me up half an hour early this morning as well, so I'm enjoying my second cup of coffee.

Wed, Mar. 31st, 2010, 06:48 pm

I had the strangest dinner tonight. An enchilada and asparagus... those don't go together so well, but it was what I had so I ate it. Not together though. I'm smarter than that.

Spring is here!

And its about freaking TIME!!!

Its 70 outside! I just talked to mom.... its 55 in Georgia. Yes ladies and gents, its warmer in Omaha than it is in the DEEP SOUTH! That almost NEVER happens!

Creamed spinach is very good!

I want my burger to finish cooking so I can eat that too!

I weighed myself today. I've lost 8.5 lbs. I'm so excited. I wants to go swim suit shopping (I KNOW! who actually ever WANTS to do that??)

54 days!

Kitty tried to eat my spinach... baaaad kitty!!!

Yay Burger!

I get to see my momma and my sister and my Kait this weekend. Speaking of... Hey Kait!! Want to get dinner Saturday or has your fam claimed you? Let me know!!

Eating time!

Boiling Over

I'm feeling so freaking stressed right now. And work is in a lull. But wedding stuff is back in full swing, my mom stresses me out on and off, Jim's mom stresses me out. I went to the gym today after work to try and destress and it only kind of helped. I think I'm gonna set my alarm early and try going tomorrow morning then bring clothes to work and go again in the afternoon. Just doing some cardio, not gonna hurt myself or anything. We'll see what happens. I've got to figure something out though cuz if I don't I'm gonna make myself sick. Hopefully I don't lost it.

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Hapiness

Woke up at 5:40 this morning (my alarm goes off at 6:30) WIDE awake! Grey came for a cuddle so I cuddled him for a bit and then decided I should get up. That's when I realized I'd never SET my alarm.... oops! So I got up and cleaned my bathroom! Now I'm enjoying my second cup of coffee. I was reading somewhere about putting cinnamon in your morning coffee so figured "Hey! I like cinnamon, and I like coffee. Why not?!" Figure if I hate it I can pour out the cup and pour myself another. Its actually pretty tasty!!

I went to the gym yesterday had a but kicking upper body weight lifting session. I'm gonna bring my gym clothes to work today and see if I want to go afterwards. I've been working OT (not much, but still doing so) and between high strung clients, the OT, and wedding planning getting back into high gear, life has taken on a stress to it. Yesterday I was just feeling high strung, not bad at all. Working out always helps the stress, even if its just to elliptical for 20-30 minutes. Plus working out is good for you!

So is not drinking pop, for many reasons. I've decided to stop drinking it. Something that is good for my teeth, my pocket book, as well as just health in general. At home its super easy cuz I don't buy soda at the store.... at work on the other hand..... when its 25 cents for a can.... yeah.... although I have no cash at the moment and I plan to keep it that way. No cash means no pop!

(Side note... state of the state address?? I find that amusing)

So it got super warm here yesterday.... up to the 40s!!! Its supposed to get above freezing for I think a week. Get rid of some of the 3 feet of snow that's sitting around. And where roads aren't completely clear maybe get rid of the packed snow. That would be quite nice!!

So Grey is staring at the water dish and meowing.... I think I need to go fill that up.
